TREATMENT OF ANHEDONIA

It is common for mood to improve on antidepressants, but anhedonia to remain and impair function and well-being, and act as a precipitant of relapse. Anhedonia can relate to the present experience or the future.

Rakesh Jair (November 21, 2025) listed the predominantly glutamergic drugs that are highly effective for treating anhedonia.

These include:

Agomelatine (25-50mg)

Vortioxetine (10-20mg)

Ketamine (iv or in)

Psilocybin (25mg)

Sertraline (for its 5HT & DA effects)

Aveluity (dextromethorphan plus bupropion; 25mg/105mg BID)

Brexpiprazole (2mg)

Cariprazine (1.5mg)

Pramipexole (0.25mg slowly up to 1-2.5mg)

rTMS (1Hz over Lpfc; 5/week for 5-7 weeks)

theta burst TMS (TBS) (10/day for 5 days)
